Air Astana Suspends Services to Kyrgyzstan

Air Astana has suspended its scheduled services between Almaty and the capital of Kyrgyzstan - Bishkek. The four times a week scheduled service (Monday /Tuesday /Thursday / Friday) is planned to resume on Monday, 19 April 2010, subject security improvements.

Air Astana has taken steps to assist affected passengers traveling between Almaty and Bishkek. Passengers will be able to re-book their tickets or apply for a full refund without penalty. To do so, passengers are advised to contact Air Astana’s 24-hour call centre on +7 (727)244 44 77. Alternatively they can contact Air Astana ticket offices or their travel agent.

“Air Astana will do everything possible to help passengers that are stranded in Almaty/Bishkek because of political situation in Kyrgystan. Although this is situation beyond our control we will offer full refunds,” said Peter Foster, President of Air Astana.

Air Astana is a full member of the Air Transport Association (IATA) and the only airline in Kazakhstan certified to perform aircraft maintenance on European standards EASA/Part 145. The airline currently operates a fleet of Boeing 767-300ER, Boeing 757-200, Airbus A321, Airbus A320, Airbus A319 and Fokker 50 aircraft.

Air Astana is a joint venture between Kazakhstan’s national welfare fund Samruk Kazyna (51%) and BAE Systems PLC (49%). It commenced operations in May 2002.
