The HD Videos of the 2010 Bintan Triathlon have been Moved to their Own Page. The Bintan Triathlon will take place the weekend of 22 and 23 May 2010 at the Nirwana Gardens on Bintan Island. Triathletes of all levels and countries can join the weekend of fun-filled activities and participate in one of the region’s most festive and vibrant triathlons.

Organised by Tribob, the Bintan Triathlon 2010 will be staged on a scenic yet challenging course in Bintan Island. Race participants will start the course with a swim at the picturesque beaches off Nirwana Beach Club, followed by a bike ride through to the undulating hills of the island and a shaded run in the greenery of Nirwana Gardens.

Now in its sixth year, organisers are expecting a crowd of 1,400 participants across all categories. The event started in 2005 with 480 participants and has seen a steady annual increase to 1,200 race participants from 37 different countries last year. While most participants make it a holiday weekend; the day-trip option from Singapore is available for the most budget-conscious athletes.

Nathalie Marquet, Tribob’s Managing Director said, “We are very pleased with the way triathlons have progressed rapidly within the mainstream sporting arena. It was once considered a sport for the fittest, but the sport is now seen as an achievable goal for the general community. Since the event’s debut in 2005, the Bintan Triathlon has brought together participants from as young as six years old to much older participants who prove that age is no barrier to enjoying an active lifestyle and excelling in sports.”

The Bintan Triathlon attracts participants of all ages and skill levels – novice, intermediate and advanced athletes can compete in races in both the male and female categories over the Sprint (750-meter swim, 20km bike, 5km run) or Olympic Distance (1500-meter swim, 40km bike, 10km run).

The most avid and competitive athletes will have this year access to HP-powered live results – a new popular feature that Tribob is adding to its events in 2010 – as they cross the finish line, before heading to the much appreciated beer booth.

On the other hand, the Kids and Youth races have become increasingly popular. The Kids race, taking place on Sunday morning, is open to 8 to 11 year olds and has a different flag-off time from the Youth race open to 12 to 15 years old, requiring participants to complete a 150-metre swim, 6-kilometre bike ride and 1.5-kilometre run.

The Fun Race Duo Challenge is another unique feature of the Bintan Triathlon, providing a fun introduction to multi-sport to friends and family members of the triathletes. This spirited competition invites teams of two, to complete a reverse aquathlon and is open to those aged 6 and above. Race participants have to complete a 1.5-kilometre run, followed by a 150-metre swim and then a piggyback dash out of the water to the finish line.

Other entertainment and activities such as face painting for children and complimentary yoga classes and fit bar sessions for accompanying spouses are offered for triathletes and accompanying friends and families alike to enjoy a fun active outdoor weekend.

Prerace clinics will be conducted by Tribob senior coaches, to offer last minutes tips and advice to the participants in preparation for the Bintan Triathlon.
