As part of its comprehensive CSR programme, Marina Bay Sands has signed Memorandums of Understanding with Metta School and Students Care Service in Singapore.

Metta School caters to the academic needs of children with learning disabilities, while Students Care Service helps at-risk students who face difficulties in their socio-emotional development process or in adjusting to their school life.

Mr. Yong Soo Cheng, Principal, Metta School, said, “We are excited and encouraged that Marina Bay Sands has so kindly stepped forward to support our effort to provide our students with opportunities to learn and grow. It is also our wish that these students can find employment when they finally leave the school. Their parents have visited Marina Bay Sands and are pleased with the arrangement made for our students. We want to thank each and everyone involved in this.”

Ms. Morene Sim, Executive Director of Students Care Service, added, “We are constantly seeking opportunities for our youth to learn and develop. The internship scheme provided by Marina Bay Sands is one such opportunity. It is practical and helpful in preparing our youth to make the transition to the work place. It is also an extension of the guidance we provide to young people as the staff of the identified Marina Bay Sands departments will help to train, guide and be role-models for our youth.”

To date, 11 young people from Metta School and Students Care Service are participating in internships at Marina Bay Sands in the areas of hotel operations, housekeeping and pastry baking. Of these, five students from Metta School are pursuing their first year of the Institute of Technical Education Skills Certificate (ISC) program. The training at Marina Bay Sands over the course of two years will help them achieve their certification in housekeeping and pastry baking.

Marina Bay Sands will work with Metta School and Students Care Service for a period of two years initially and then review the success of the program.
