Travel News Asia Latest Travel News Podcasts Videos Monday, 27 September 2010

AirAsia and Lotus Racing have unveiled an Airbus A320 aircraft adorned in the legendary, classic colours of Lotus Racing.

In Lotus Racing’s classic British racing green and yellow, the livery features the name ‘Team Lotus’, which is the new name the team will be racing under in 2011.

Lotus Racing Team Principal Dato’ Sri Dr. Tony Fernandes, who is also AirAsia’s Group CEO said, “This new livery does not only symbolize our energetic partnership, but a joint-representation of the hard work and challenges that we went through for the taste of success. Initially, many have the opinion that Lotus Racing was a far-fetched dream and didn’t believe we could prepare the cars and make the grid in time for the 2010 season. But the team showed the cynics wrong and gained respect and recognition as serious contenders in F1TM, with top-class drivers racing for the team.”

As the official partner of Lotus Racing, AirAsia’s unveiling of the ‘Team Lotus’ plane livery also signify the airline’s commitment in supporting Malaysia’s first Formula One outfit and the development of motorsport activities and talents in the ASEAN region.

One of the team drivers, Heikki Kovalainen, said, “There's not many teams that can go racing and be carried home on a plane in their own team's colours - that is cool - in fact it's pretty hardcore, painting a whole plane in our colours! I want to say thanks to Tony, Kamarudin and all the guys at AirAsia for doing this - it's very special for everyone in the team, and it'll be a real honour flying into KL on board. Awesome!”
