Karl Hecht, a senior member of the LAN Airlines team in Australia has been appointed to a new role with the airline in the USA. Currently Sales Senior Manager Australia and New Zealand, Karl has been named as LAN’s new Sales Director, West Coast USA, effective from April 2010.

In his new role, Karl will be responsible for passenger sales and strategy on LAN flights from Los Angeles to Santiago, Chile and Lima, Peru, as well as beyond on routes throughout South America. Karl also will be responsible for sales on LAN’s new San Francisco – Lima flights, which are due to commence operating in July.

“Karl Hecht is a popular and effective member of the LAN team in our Asia Pacific Regional Office in Sydney,” said Rodrigo Contreras, the airline’s General Manager Australia, New Zealand and Asia. “Since taking on his current role in August 2008, Karl has been responsible for the successful implementation of a new LAN sales process in Australia and New Zealand, and a significant increase in both premium leisure traffic to South America and LAN’s market share in the corporate travel market from Australia and NZ  .... His departure is our loss, but America’s gain, and we wish him every success in his new role.”

A search is now underway for a successor to Karl as Sales Manager Australia and New Zealand. LAN’s Sydney office was recently expanded to accommodate the airline’s strong sales growth in Australia, New Zealand and Asia.
