Orient-Express has appointed Andrea Filippi as the company’s Executive Director of Worldwide Sales.

Prior to his promotion, Filippi was Regional Director of Sales & Marketing based in Orient-Express’s office in Milan, where he was responsible for sales and marketing for the company’s Italian hotels, including Hotel Cipriani in Venice and Hotel Splendido in Portofino. During this time he was involved in the successful opening of the Hotel Caruso in Ravello, and the launch of the company’s latest acquisitions, Grand Hotel Timeo and Villa Sant’Andrea in Sicily, in May 2010.

Filippi’s key responsibilities will be to oversee and develop the company’s sales force, which spans over 20 key global markets; maintain and strengthen Orient-Express’ vital relationships with the luxury travel trade; and establish effective strategies to support both the company's global sales network and on-property sales services teams.

Filippi is one of five nominees for Virtuoso Life’s “One to Watch” award, which the magazine describes as “a forward-looking nod to those shaping the future of the hotel world, recognising an individual making an impact on the hotel and resort industry.” Nominated by the industry’s elite travel advisors, the results of the awards will be announced in August 2010.

Filippi began his career in luxury hospitality as a management trainee at the Hotel Splendido in Portofino, before moving into corporate roles at Ciga Hotels, Hyatt and Four Seasons, returning to Orient-Express in 2004, when he established the company’s sales & marketing office in Milan.

Filippi will remain in Italy for a three-month transitional period whilst his successor is found, after which he will be based between London, Milan, Orient-Express properties and their main feeder markets.
