Travel News Asia Latest Travel News Podcasts Videos Wednesday, 17 February 2010

Hertz Australia has chosen the Mercedes-Benz C Class sedan and the CLC Sports Coupe as part of the inaugural fleet for its new Prestige Collection. The collection will also include the stylish Lexus IS 250 sedan and the spacious RX 350 SUV. The super cool, and fun MINI Cooper S, as well as the MINI Cooper S Cabrio will join the Fun Collection.

Commencing this month, both Mercedes-Benz types will begin to enter the Hertz rental fleet at key mainland locations. The Mercedes-Benz C 200 CGI Saloon is a four-door, four cylinder sedan, with elegant appointments including luxurious leather upholstery and trim, a Satellite Navigation System and a 7" colour foldaway monitor. The stylish CLC 200K “Evolution Edition” is a three-door sports coupe with features including a glass panoramic sunroof and 18" alloy wheels.

The four-door, six-cylinder Lexus IS 250 features leather-accented interior, satellite navigation, climate control, a Bluetooth- capable audio system with iPod connectivity and reversing camera. For those seeking luxury on a larger scale, the six-cylinder Lexus RX350 SUV affords passengers greater interior and storage space, with a generous 446-litre rear cargo area – ideal for both leisure and business travellers. The RX 350 SUV also features a six-stack CD audio system with iPod and Bluetooth TM capability, along with reversing camera, satellite navigation, climate control and the unique Lexus remote touch navigation system.

From March, 2010, the newest and sportiest descendants of the classic MINI will begin to enter the Hertz rental fleet at key locations around the Australian mainland, as the company extends its increasingly popular Fun Collection to this market, after success in the USA and Europe.

“The MINI is one of the world’s most recognised and most loved cars and we are delighted to be using the MINI to launch our Fun Collection in Australia,” said Jacqueline Lehmann, Region Vice President and Managing Director for Hertz Australia. “The MINI started life in 1959 as a practical solution to rising fuel prices in England, but became a global motoring icon which has evolved over half a century ... now, the MINI is again in vogue, produced by one of the world’s finest auto manufacturers, BMW.”

The MINI Cooper S is a two-door, four-seat, six speed automatic with shift paddles on the sports steering wheel, a hi-fi speaker system, and five star (Euro NCAP) safety features including dynamic stability control, anti-lock braking, cornering brake control and six airbags - front, side and curtain airbags for the driver and passengers - as well as its iconic go cart handling. The Cooper S will be introduced in a variety of external colours which display the MINI’s heritage. The Cooper S Cabrio is the stylish convertible version, adding the exhilaration of open top driving to the Fun Collection.

“Renting a car is often a decision made for practical reasons,” said Ms Lehmann. “By launching the Fun Collection, and initially the MINI Cooper S and Cooper S Cabrio, we want to also make the car itself part of the adventure, and not just a means of transport.”
