Bangkok Airways has reported a first quarter 2010 revenue of 2.3 billion baht, a figure higher than any quarter of 2009.

Last year’s overall earnings amounted to 7 billion baht with around 2.5 million passengers in total. For 2010, the airline expects to generate revenue of 8.2 billion baht and serve 2.7 million passengers.

“As a private sector enterprise we are able to adapt quickly to changing market conditions and are now looking primarily to promote domestic tourism, focusing on the many wonderful destinations and wide-ranging opportunities our country offers,” said Puttipong Prasarttong-Osoth, Bangkok Airways’ President. “The Bangkok Airways campaign to drive this domestic focus will be attention grabbing and the offers it promotes, highly competitive, with online marketing and more codeshare partners.”

Currently, Bangkok Airways has codeshare agreements with Thai Airways International, EVA Air, Etihad Airways, Air Berlin, Air France and KLM. The company plans to cooperate with more codeshare partners to provide additional convenience for foreign travellers and to work with each partner in the promotion of Thailand tourism.

Chulin Kocharoen Deputy Sales Director – Sales Strategy Planning and Administration commented, “Previously, we have utilized all sales channels, but the online channel has grown rapidly in the past 10 years ... The online channel growth rate is around 30% per year with online sales representing 27% of overall sales volume in 2009. For 2010 we expect a 35% growth rate, representing 2.8 billion baht in cash revenue from what we believe will be an active tourism market in the second half of the year.”

Currently, Bangkok Airways flies to seven domestic routes in Thailand: Chiang Mai, Lampang, Sukhothai, Pattaya (U-Tapao), Trat, Phuket, Samui and Krabi and seven international routes: Hong Kong, Singapore, Luang Prabang, Phanom Penh, Siem Reap, Yangon and Maldives.

The fleet consists of 17 aircraft: 8 ATRs, 3 Airbus A320s and 6 Airbus A319s.
