The Caribbean Hotel Deal of the Year Award winners for 2009 were announced at the Caribbean Hotel & Resort Investment Summit (CHRIS) in Miami. Hosted by BHN, the inaugural CHRIS just concluded at the InterContinental Miami.

The Development of the Year Award was presented to the Sheraton Puerto Rico Convention Center Hotel & Casino in San Juan, Puerto Rico. A 503-room, full service convention hotel, the Sheraton Puerto Rico Convention Center Hotel & Casino opened in November 2009 and is the first major hotel development in San Juan, Puerto Rico in the last decade. The convention hotel serves as the main anchor to the newly-built Puerto Rico Convention Center.

Along with the Sheraton Puerto Rico Convention Center Hotel & Casino, nominees for the CHRIS Development of the Year Award included the 132-room Banyan Tree Mayakoba in Playa del Carmen, Mexico; and the 166-room Viceroy Anguilla Resort & Residences in Anguilla, British West Indies.

The delegates of CHRIS voted for the winner from among a short listed nominee pool which was selected by a nominating committee of CHRIS sponsors and planning committee members.

The Transaction Deal of the Year Award winner was Sandals Emerald Bay, Great Exuma, The Bahamas. Emerald Bay is the latest addition to Sandals “Luxury Included” brand and includes 183 spacious oceanfront rooms, each with Butler service. The one mile of crescent-shaped beach is ideal for the resort’s luxury all-inclusive format.

CHRIS focuses on hotel and tourism investment opportunities in the Caribbean and is being held annually in Miami, the financial and transportation gateway to the Caribbean region.
