The new all-suite boutique hotel, Hansar Bangkok, has appointed Manfred Ilg as General Manager.

Born in Munich, Germany, Manfred spent the first eleven years of his distinguished career with the Kempinski Group. Following his apprenticeship in Munich, he rose through the Rooms Division ranks in the Texas (USA), Budapest, and Bangkok properties before returning to Munich as Director of Sales, Corporate Accounts.

After two years as Rooms Division Manager at the Arabella Sheraton Grande Hotel in Frankfurt, his love of Thailand saw him return to Bangkok where he held Executive Assistant Manager roles at the Sofitel Central Plaza and the Dusit Thani Hotel respectively.

Manfred then presided as General Manager at the boutique La Residence d’Angkor in Siem Reap, Cambodia, run by Orient-Express Hotels. Manfred played a major role in the branding and expansion of the property which included additional rooms, a second restaurant and the Spa.

His love of Thailand saw him return for a third time in 2008 as General Manager for Asian Oasis where he took on the additional role of Managing Executive for sister company East West Siam. In this role, he gained extensive knowledge of rural lodging in northern Thailand, cruises in various parts of the Kingdom, and promoted sustainable tourism in rural areas, creating an income for a number of hill tribes to become self sufficient.

Fluent in German, English, French and Thai, Manfred is a truly passionate hotelier who enjoys travel, movies, reading, fine cuisine, networking, and ballroom dancing. He supports children in an orphanage in Siem Reap and is an avid animal lover; owning four dogs.
