Suntec Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centre, one of Asia’s leading convention and exhibition centres, will be the main meeting venue for APEC 2009 Leaders’ Week.

The Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation, or APEC, is the premier forum for facilitating economic growth, cooperation, trade and investment in the Asia Pacific region.

Since its inception in 1989, APEC has worked to reduce tariffs and other trade barriers across the Asia Pacific region, creating efficient domestic economies and dramatically increasing exports.

APEC was established in 1989 to further enhance economic growth and prosperity for the region and to strengthen the Asia Pacific community. It has 21 members - referred to as "Member Economies" - which account for approximately 41% of the world's population, approximately 55% of world GDP and about 49% of world trade.

APEC's 21 Member Economies are Australia; Brunei Darussalam; Canada; Chile; People's Republic of China; Hong Kong, China; Indonesia; Japan; Republic of Korea; Malaysia; Mexico; New Zealand; Papua New Guinea; Peru; The Republic of the Philippines; The Russian Federation; Singapore; Chinese Taipei; Thailand; United States of America; Vietnam.

“Suntec Singapore is proud to be a lead partner for APEC 2009. This is truly a landmark event and we are honoured to be hosting APEC at our venue,” said Pieter Idenburg, Chief Executive Officer of Suntec Singapore. “Our ability to host a series of high profile governmental events makes Suntec Singapore an undisputed market leader in Singapore. This event showcases not just Suntec Singapore's capabilities, but the nation’s foresight and leadership in the convention and exhibition industry.”

Since its inception in 1995 and following the success of the 2006 Annual Meetings of the IMF and World Bank Group in 2006, Suntec Singapore has hosted several high profile events such as the World Trade Organisation Ministerial Conference in 1996 and the World Economic Forum in 1998 to SIBOS (SWIFT international banking operations seminar) in 2003.

A versatile and flexible space spanning over 100,000 square metres, the venue has received a host of accolades and awards and has been recognised as one of the leading convention centres in Asia.
