Marina Bay Sands has appointed Tony Cousens as vice president of its hotel operations in Singapore. This follows the recent appointment of Nigel Roberts as president of the premier integrated entertainment destination, and is part of the company’s current plan to recruit senior operations management staff.

Mr. Cousens will be responsible for the 2600-room-and-suite hotel, a hotel team of approximately 2,000 employees, and will oversee the successful launch and smooth running of the hotel operations.

With over 30 years of experience in the luxury hospitality industry, Mr. Cousens has spent a significant part of his career in the Asia Pacific region, helping major hospitality brands build and manage their presence in this part of the world.

Prior to joining Marina Bay Sands, Mr. Cousens was the senior vice president at Jumeirah, the Dubai-based luxury international hospitality management group, leading its Asia Pacific brand development and operations.

Amongst the hotels he has managed, Mr. Cousens’ recent portfolio includes The Marina Mandarin Hotel in Singapore and Le Royal Meridien King Edward Hotel in Toronto, Canada.

Welcoming him to the team, Mr. Nigel Roberts, President, Marina Bay Sands, said, “As we ramp up towards our opening day, we are extremely pleased to have Tony on board to lead us in this critical aspect of our property. His invaluable experience in the luxury hospitality line will contribute significantly to ensuring Marina Bay Sands achieves the gold standard of world-class service that Las Vegas Sands Corp.’s integrated resorts are well known for.”

Marina Bay Sands’ three soaring hotel towers will house approximately 2,600 luxury rooms and suites, offering trendy restaurants, bars and entertainment lounges.

Capping the towers will be a breathtaking one-hectare rooftop Sky Park offering expansive 360-degree views of Singapore’s skyline. The integrated resort also boasts large and flexible convention and exhibition facilities for up to 45,000 guests, an iconic ArtScience Museum, state-of-the-art theatres, entertainment and a good spread of shopping and dining outlets.

Mr. Cousens said, “It is indeed a once in a lifetime opportunity to join the team at Marina Bay Sands at this exciting time of development. Given Marina Bay Sands’ goal of helping Singapore become one of the best destinations globally, and its commitment to service excellence, I am confident that we will deliver a unique experience to our guests.”

Mr. Cousens, who holds dual British and Canadian nationality, is a permanent resident of Singapore and lives with his Chinese wife Germaine and 5-year-old son Zachary.
