Travel News Asia Latest Travel News Podcasts Tuesday, 31 March 2009

Capella Singapore, a luxury hotel on Sentosa Island welcomed its first guests on Monday.

The hotel has opened with two high-profile events in its first days. Iconic luxury brand Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is previewing its new 200EX model, while Gucci will be showcasing their spring/summer 2009 collection with a fashion show lounge event in the ballroom.

Michael Luible, General Manager, Capella Singapore, said, “As the first Capella in Asia, it is our intention to set a new standard of personalised service. Our guests are invited to determine the experiences they desire, and we will do everything to facilitate it. Our personal assistants, a Capella hallmark, are well equipped to facilitate every need - from planning a culinary tour of Singapore specialties, to booking a corporate meeting, to arranging a romantic dinner, children’s birthday party, deep sea fishing or even a private jet.”

Capella Singapore, located within the 30 acres of lush greenery, is just ten minutes from the bustling business and shopping district of Singapore.

Guests will be enchanted - first greeted by the sight of the two regal Tanah Merah colonial buildings as they arrive via the sweeping driveway. Integrating the colonial history of Tanah Merah with modern Western design, Lord Norman Foster spearheaded the restoration of the buildings, while adding a new, modern structure of grace and beauty.

The 111 rooms at Capella Singapore comprise a presidential manor, 38 villas, 11 suites and 61 premier guest rooms. Designed by acclaimed interior designer Jaya Ibrahim, founder of Jaya and Associates, the warm and inviting palettes of the rooms reflect the underlying influence of the tropical setting.

For a truly unique Capella Singapore experience, consider staying at the Capella Manors. Each measuring a spacious 434 square metres (4,672 sq ft), the skillfully restored Manors comprise three bedrooms, each with an ensuite bathroom. The Manors offer a peek into the history of Singapore while providing all the modern amenities of a luxury hotel.

Nestled around the centrepiece of Tanah Merah are the Garden Villas, each with a spacious living area and a panoramic view of the South China Sea. With an option of 133 square metres (1,432 sq ft) or 185 square metres (1,991 sq ft), with one or two bedrooms respectively, each Villa even boasts its own personal plunge pool, hidden within lush foliage for utmost privacy.

Or, guests can opt for one of the four Constellation Rooms, each featuring its own private rooftop Jacuzzi for an indulgent treat. Even more spacious are the Sentosa Suites at 83 square metres (893 sq ft) and Capella Suites at 99 square metres (1,066 sq ft), targeted at the discerning traveller who values space and privacy.

All rooms are equipped with state-of-the-art technology including touch panels that control the lighting, air conditioning, drapes and LCD television. Wireless broadband connection and iPod docking stations are also available.

The Auriga spa at the hotel will help guests relax and rejuvenate. Developed by award-winning Swedish-based Raison d’Etre, Auriga offers four signature treatments, each based on a corresponding lunar phase. Within the 12,000 square foot area, guests can choose from among nine experience rooms, including three suites with shower and bath, separate steam shower and dressing area. For a truly tropical ambience, each experience room has an accompanying outdoor garden, filled with natural light and tropical foliage.

All-day dining is available at The Knolls, serving a blend of Western, Indian, Japanese and local Singaporean cuisine. For a relaxing and invigorating Afternoon Tea, the restaurant also has a broad range of over 40 varieties of Japanese, British and Indian teas. You can also opt for a fine-dining experience at the contemporary Cantonese restaurant – Cassia. Stylishly designed by famed architecture firm AFSO, the intimate and sensuous setting fully complements the haute cuisine, elevated by the use of organic ingredients widely featured on the menu. For a relaxing evening, enjoy a drink at Bob’s Bar, with the backdrop of the South China Sea at sunset.

Other hotel facilities include three cascading pools, a fitness centre with state-of-the-art equipment from Technogym and limousine services with the distinctive in-house Rolls-Royce Phantom.

Daily rates are upwards of Sin$1800 for villas and Sin$750 for guestrooms and suites. To commemorate its opening, Capella Singapore is offering a variety of introductory experiences:
