Travel News Asia Latest Travel News Podcasts Tuesday, 28 April 2009

One of the world’s biggest surf competitions, the Billabong Pro Tahiti, will be held 9-20 May just off the shore of Teahupoo - home to the monster waves known as Chopes.

Travellers could watch and learn from pro surfers with Air Tahiti Nui and Tahiti Travel Connection’s latest package, starting from just A$2975 per person ex Sydney, including air taxes.

“Surfing is a big part of Australian culture, and for enthusiasts the Billabong Pro in May is a must-see event,” said Craig Lee, Regional Director Australia for Air Tahiti Nui.

The “Surf like a Pro” package includes return Economy Class airfares with Air Tahiti Nui, a meet-and-greet with a traditional lei on arrival, seven nights accommodation at the Sofitel Tahiti Resort in a Classic Lagoon View Room and seven days Avis car rental with unlimited kilometres.

“Pro surfers such as Kelly Slater and Australia’s very own Mick Fanning come to Tahiti to ride the challenging reef breaks of Teahupoo, but visitors can also do some surfing themselves,” said Mr Lee.

With the “Surf like a Pro” package travellers will also receive an introductory surf or bodyboard lesson.

This package is valid for travel until 31 May 2009 and is subject to availability. Some conditions apply.

It is also available ex Brisbane and Melbourne from A$3170 per person, and ex Adelaide from A$3380 per person, based on twin share rates.

Air Tahiti Nui offers three weekly one-stop departures from Sydney to Papeete, with onward services to the USA and Europe.
