SEGA Republic, a 76,000 sq ft indoor theme park, opens its gates today (Friday, 21 August 2009) at The Dubai Mall, the world's largest shopping and entertainment destination.

With nine adrenaline-pumping attractions such as SPIN GEAR, SONIC HOPPER, HALFPIPE CANYON, STORM-G and INITIAL D4 LIMITED, SEGA Republic is sure to thrill visitors from the young to the young at heart.

The various attractions are spread over five themed zones – Speed, Adventure, Sports, Cyberpop and Redemption – featuring an array of everything from action packed motion-simulators to simulated sports games, classic carnival games and one of the region’s largest selections of prize-winning redemption games.

While the Speed Zone offers thrills for the adrenaline seeker on attractions such as the 9-metre drop ride SONIC HOPPER, the Adventure Zone has the keenly awaited SPIN GEAR, a spinning coaster replete with sound and visual effects, themed on the story of an evil attempt to capture Sonic the Hedgehog by his arch nemesis Dr. Eggman.

The Sports Zone is the place to test one’s skills and win at the latest trendsetting sports simulation games that are based on real world sports. One of the highlights of this zone is HALFPIPE CANYON, a hi-tech snowboarding half-pipe that gives riders the thrill of throttling up and down a 7-metre incline at speeds of up to 40 km/hr.

The Cyberpop Zone offers cutting-edge interactive entertainment through a variety of next-generation gaming equipment, virtual experiences and light-hearted fun.

The Redemption Zone hosts one of the region’s largest selection of redemption games as well as a huge selection of winnable merchandises for all ages.

Special introductory offers have been made available to celebrate the opening. These include the POWER Pass, which gives unlimited access to all nine attractions for the entire day for only AED 100.

A PAY and PLAY Pass, which can be topped up as and when required, is also available at a minimum start charge of AED 10. For those who take this option, the various attractions will range in price from AED 15 to AED 30.

The theme park operates the same hours as the mall, which is from 10am to 10pm Sunday to Wednesday and 10am to midnight Thursday to Saturday. The entrance to SEGA Republic is located on the second floor of The Dubai Mall with parking conveniently located nearby.

Mr. Arif Amiri, Chief Executive Officer, Emaar Retail said, “Through our partnership with SEGA Corporation, we have brought world-class leisure expertise to the region to ensure that the very best in theme park entertainment is delivered. All the attractions have been thoroughly tested to meet international standards for safety and the operating team has undertaken extensive training to ensure the well-being of every guest. We are offering the ultimate in fun and excitement to all visitors in a totally safe, controlled environment.”
