SAS appoints New General Manager in UAE

Travel News Asia Latest Travel News Podcasts Monday, 15 June 2009

SAS Scandinavian Airlines has appointed Albert Henschel as the new General Manager for the UAE.

Henschel began his professional career as a sales representative at the leading Swedish Travel Agency and SAS (Scandinavian Airlines) owned Nyman & Schultz back in 1975, with business and group travel as the main target groups.

In 1979, he moved to the equally SAS-owned tour operator Globetrotter, selling Intercontinental tour packages via travel agencies all over Sweden.

In 1983, Henschel started his career with SAS as the Head of the downtown Ticket Office in Stockholm. He then continued on as the person responsible for Travel Agency Sales in the Stockholm Area, and later on as Business Controller.

After a few years within the Swedish marketing department, Henschel spent five years with Route Network planning, followed by one year within the Product Development department.

Between 2000 and mid-2004, Henschel held the post of SAS District Sales Manager for St. Petersburg in Russia - a position which he found to be most interesting and challenging. In the last five years prior to this latest designation, Henschel worked on product development within the area of electronic ticketing and Travel Pass solutions at the SAS Headquarters in Stockholm.

“So much has been written and reported about Dubai and the UAE, and I am excited about this market for SAS,” said Henschel. “Even as the world economy is facing a tough challenge in the global financial crisis, the Middle East market continues to be robust when it comes to air travel and I am looking forward on capitalising on this scenario to further position SAS Scandinavian Airlines as the preferred airline of choice for travel into and from Scandinavia.”
