AIME’s 2009 Welcome Reception is be held at one of Melbourne’s most popular tourist attractions, an historic Melbourne landmark and a venue that is an institution for Melburnians.

Officially opened on 20 March, 1878, the Queen Victoria Market is one of the largest open air markets in the southern hemisphere. The market is home to almost one thousand traders who sell everything from exotic Australian fruit and vegetables, local and imported gourmet foods, meat, fish and poultry, to hardware, manchester, clothing and authentic Australian artefacts and souvenirs. Many traders are second- and third-generation, truly reflecting the cosmopolitan make-up of Melbourne.

During the summer months the market also opens at night when it plays host to a wider range of quirky wares, exotic food bars, world bands and great fun. Last year, the market attracted over 9.5 million visitors.

“The Queen Victoria Market, like Melbourne, has a colourful history. It is here you will find the essence of Melbourne; a melting-pot of cultures enjoying an eclectic mix of cuisine, language and creative energy,” said Sandra Chipchase, CEO, MCVB.

“The AIME Welcome Reception will be unlike any other, a vibrant multi-sensory, multicultural event where you will experience the best of Melbourne food and wine and the wonderful fusion of tastes and food styles from around the world. Think of it as a hawkers’ market with style, sophisticated regionally inspired food and pulsating with big city energy.”

The creative concept, staging and design for the AIME Welcome Reception has been organised with the assistance of the event sponsors, Atlantic Group and Staging Connections.

More than 2,300 people are expected to attend the AIME 09 Welcome Reception at the Queen Victoria Market from 6pm – 9pm on Monday 16 February 2009.

AIME will be held at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre, Australia, 17 and 18 February 2009.
