Duncan Palmer appointed Managing Director of The Langham, Hong Kong

Langham Hotels International has appointed Mr. Duncan Palmer to the position of Managing Director of The Langham, Hong Kong. In addition to this capacity, Mr. Palmer has also assumed the role of Vice President, Design – The Langham Brand for LHI.

With a distinguished career of 30 years in the hotel industry, Mr. Palmer will continue to lead the repositioning of The Langham, Hong Kong and take it to the next level in terms of operational excellence, world-class brand management and innovative marketing initiatives.

In his role of Vice President – Design, Mr. Palmer will oversee the planning and interior design of all major refurbishments of existing and new properties under The Langham brand, ensuring that our promise of enchanting hospitality is delivered through the physical design of the properties.

British-born, Mr. Palmer has enjoyed an exceptional track record in senior hotel management positions for luxury hotels in United Kingdom, Middle East and Asia, including Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines and Macau. Mr. Palmer was General Manager of The Savoy, London and The Connaught, London for 8 years and prior to that, he spent 12 years with the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group.

Prior to this move to Hong Kong, Mr. Palmer served as Managing Director of The Langham, London - the flagship property of LHI that opened in 1865 as Europe’s first grand hotel. He orchestrated the hotel’s rebranding campaign in 2004 and has been instrumental in raising the profile of The Langham brand in United Kingdom and abroad. Over the past five years, Mr. Palmer also spearheaded the completion of a £80 million refurbishment of this iconic London landmark including the stunning redesign of the lobby, Palm Court, luxurious new guest rooms and the David Collins-designed Artesian Bar and The Landau restaurant, both of which have already opened to high acclaim.

Mr. Palmer’s wealth of expertise and contribution to the hotel industry have won him numerous prestigious awards and accolades. During his tenure at The Langham, London, Mr. Palmer was awarded the Dom Perignon Award for Excellence from the Academy of Food & Wine Service, as well as Chevalier De L’ordre du Merite Agricole (British Equivalent of the MBE) from the French Government.

Mr. Duncan Palmer enjoys travelling and is a dedicated sports fan with keen interest in tennis and golf. Specialising in Gastronomy at college, he also has a strong passion for good restaurants and his own extensive wine collection.

As Managing Director of The Langham, Hong Kong, Mr. Palmer replaces Ms. Katie Benson who has assumed the role of Managing Director of The Langham, London and Regional Vice President – Europe and North America for LHI.
