Kata Beach Resort & Spa to Host Phuket Kings Cup Regatta

Travel News Asia Latest Travel News Podcasts Videos Thursday, 12 November 2009

Continuing a tradition that began in 1998, Kata Beach Resort & Spa will again be the host venue of the Phuket Kings Cup Regatta.

This year, the closing day of the regatta coincides with His Majesty the King of Thailands birthday on 5 December, and although very special celebratory plans have already been laid by the Kata Group Resorts Thailand, the groups Chairman, Pamuke Achariyachai. is keeping them very close to his chest.

To host the regatta is a great honour and I personally believe that Phuket has all the right ingredients for the Regatta to grow. When the opportunity for the new host venue for the Regatta became available I had no hesitation in going for it, said Pamuke Achariyachai. The sea has always been my personal passion and I strongly believe that Phuket can be South East Asias fore-most marine leisure playground, including for offshore powerboat racing.

Kevin Whitcraft, President of the Phuket Kings Cup Regatta organising committee said, The Regatta itself is now in its 23rd year and since 1988 the Kata Beach Resort & Spa has been the host venue for an event that grows in stature each year. Today, the Phuket Kings Cup Regatta is one of the top events in the yachting world, both regionally and internationally, and attracts around 2,000 additional high spending tourists over a seven day period.

The 23rd Phuket King's Cup Regatta will take place 28 November - 5 December, 2009, off Kata Beach, Phuket, Thailand.
