Starwood Making a Difference in Bali

Travel News Asia Latest Travel News Podcasts Tuesday, 11 August 2009

Starwood Hotels & Resorts in Bali have launched an Anak Bintang Campaign in support of the community and children in Bali. The Anak Bintang project in which children in Bali will receive helmets for use on the roads.

The campaign was born from the fact that very often, when travelling on the roads in Bali, one will see more than two people on one motorcycle and in addition, children, sometimes more than one, without helmets clinging onto a parent that is riding the motorbike.

The name of the campaign, Anak Bintang was chosen as it suitably means Star Children, (anak means children and bintang means star).

As a first phase of the campaign, the four hotels in Bali under the banner of Starwood Hotels & Resorts, namely The Westin Resort Nusa Dua Bali, The Laguna, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, Nusa Dua, Bali, Le Meridien Nirwana Golf Spa Resort, and The St. Regis Bali Resort have come together to provide an initial funding to purchase helmets for children and for this first phase, they are children of the staff and associates belonging to the four hotels. So far, almost 600 helmets have been handed over.

As a next phase, the campaign aims to raise monies for the purchase of these helmets through public contribution, mainly through guests of the four hotels.

“The Anak Bintang campaign reflects one of Starwood Care Pillars, namely Care to Community as the group is involved, in many ways, in activities within the community in which they are located. Given that children are the future of the world, ensuring their safety is paramount and therefore we are proud to be launching this initiative,” said Mr Peter Frawley, Regional Vice President, South East Asia, Starwood Hotels & Resorts.
