Suntec Singapore launches Teddy Bear and Stuffed Toys Round Up Drive

Travel News Asia Latest Travel News Podcasts Monday, 8 December 2008

Suntec Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centre, a venue known for its established CSR programmes, is spearheading a charity drive to support the pre-school children from the Metta Welfare Association by embarking on its first-ever “Teddy Bear and Stuffed Toys” Round Up Drive.

The goal of the campaign is to collect used or partially used teddy bears and stuffed toys to spread the holiday cheer and to comfort the children with special needs.

To kick-off the charity drive, staff members of Suntec Singapore and their families started championing the cause within the organization, collecting a little over 300 teddy bears and stuffed toys since the start of the campaign on 1 December 2008.

“The Teddy Bear and Stuffed Toys initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to sustainable development and building goodwill in the community. At Suntec Singapore, we have an active CSR programme that supports various causes and we understand the importance of giving back to our community. This is a community effort and we look forward to seeing everyone come forward and join us in this worthy cause,” said Ms Anjna Nihalani, Director of Marketing and Communications at Suntec Singapore.

The Metta Pre-School is a non-profit institution for children aged three to six years from various races and religions who are diagnosed with mild to moderate autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and/or intellectual disabilities. The charity was founded in 1992 by Venerable Shi Fa Zhao, Abbot of the Golden Pagoda Buddhist Temple. In accordance with The Great Compassionate Vows of The Buddha of Medicine, Metta aims to provide the best health care and welfare services for the needy and less fortunate, regardless of race or religion.

“It’s very encouraging to see Suntec Singapore uphold the spirit of giving with such forthcoming gestures. The goal of its charity drive is clearly aligned to our beneficiaries’ needs. I believe our preschoolers will be overjoyed to see a Christmas tree fully adorned with presents!” said Mr Ee Tiang Hwee, Deputy Executive Director of Metta Welfare Association.

Members of the community are encouraged to come forward and contribute by donating their used teddy bears and stuffed toys. The toys can be dropped off at the lobby of Suntec Singapore between now and December 21 from 7am to 11pm daily. All the toys collected will be fashioned unto a Christmas tree and presented to the children.

On top of the goodwill initiative and to drum up the excitement of the festivities, Suntec Singapore is also celebrating the holiday season with:

Christmas Medley on Piano: Enjoy a soothing medley of Christmas carols every afternoon and evening at the lobby of the convention centre at 12.30pm and 6.00pm through Christmas Day.

Epicurean Delights @ Pearl River Palace Cantonese Restaurant: Master Chef Mok promises to delight even the most discerning palate from an array of Oriental-inspired Christmas dishes such as Stir-Fried Shredded Turkey with Rice Sauce, Christmas Turkey Salad to Specialty Log Cakes and many more.
