V Australia launches Recruitment Drive for Cabin Crew and Pilots

Travel News Asia Latest Travel News Monday, 25 February 2008

V Australia, Virgin Blue’s long haul airline, has kicked off a major recruitment drive for cabin crew and pilots.

V Australia, set to launch flights between Australia and the United States of America later this year, will formally advertise from this week inviting applications for cabin crew member positions, including Flight Managers, Cabin Leaders and Cabin Crew, to join Australia’s newest international airline as it ramps up preparations for take-off in the fourth quarter of 2008.

The airline has already commenced recruitment of pilots, including training captains and senior flight operations team members.

V Australia Airlines will initially recruit 280 cabin crew and 100 pilots to operate the first three aircraft and they will join the existing 100 strong V Australia team working on the airline’s launch.

The recruitment drive follows the recent Open Skies agreement between the Australia and US Governments paving the way for V Australia Airlines as a majority Australian owned airline to decide where, when and how often it flies to the United States.

V Australia Airlines has ordered seven new Boeing 777-300ER aircraft to operate trans-Pacific flights. The aircraft is one of the most popular in the world and V Australia Airlines will be the first and only airline to operate the aircraft type between Australia and the US.

Virgin Blue Chief Executive, Brett Godfrey, said, “Following the Open Skies agreement, we are escalating our recruitment drive for the team who will be the public face of V Australia, it’s a really exciting opportunity to join a new international airline team from day one.”

“We are now formally inviting applications to satisfy our recruitment needs in both the short and long term and are seeking high calibre applicants who are the right fit, who are excited by the profession and who would help build the success of V Australia from day one.”

Mr Godfrey said V Australia Airlines will be looking for a mix of experienced cabin crew and also people who many have never flown before but who have a vibrant, fresh and passionate personality and are looking for a new career and just such an exciting opportunity.

V Australia Airlines is expected to announce its launch routes, first fares and product details in the near future.
