With a vision to develop its Kuching hub in East Malaysia, AirAsia is enhancing its Kuching - Macau route frequency to daily flights, starting from 15 May 2008. The route will be serviced by the airline’s new 180-seater Airbus A320 aircraft.

AirAsia is the only airline to serve the international route to Macau from the hub which was introduced on 15 November 2007, and is currently serving three flights weekly to Macau.

Dato’ Tony Fernandes, Group CEO of AirAsia said, “We believe Kuching is ready to embrace the global low cost travel as there is so much tourism potential in Sarawak in terms of cultural diversity. Encouraged by our robust passenger loads, we hope to grow the hub further with the support of a low cost terminal in the state.

And by doing what we do best, which is to offer low fares to stimulate demand for travel, we will help to develop the state as a gateway for locals to other regional cities and drive inbound tourism growth for the state. Not only is international air connectivity crucial for tourism growth and boosting trade, but domestic connectivity is also necessary for national integration between Peninsular and East Malaysia by bringing Malaysia closer for families, students and friends, and AirAsia is proud to be able to play a role here.”

The Kuching hub serves seven domestic routes to Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, Kota Kinabalu, Miri, Bintulu, Sibu and including the three international flights, Kuching hub serves a total of 163 flights per week.
