Meritus Hotels & Resorts supports Singapore’s bid to Host Inaugural 2010 Youth Olympic Games

Meritus Hotels & Resorts is pledging its support towards Singapore’s bid as the host city for the inaugural 2010 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) with a representative 100-strong Meritus Contingent at the Final Countdown at the Padang today, 21 February 2008.

The winning city will be announced by the President of the International Olympic Committee, Mr Jacques Rogge, at the Padang via live worldwide telecast and web cast. To mark the occasion, leading agencies involved in the YOG bid committee have organised a carnival at the Padang to be attended by avid supporters comprising of about 700 companies.

Meritus Hotels & Resorts has always shown keen support in national-level initiatives and events, especially those pertaining to the nation’s tourism trade. In congruence with leading governmental agencies’ effort, Meritus Hotels & Resorts will show its support for this national endeavour and participate in the event decked in red, the nation’s colour.

Consisting of service level personnel to executive staff from both Meritus Mandarin Singapore and Marina Mandarin Singapore, almost every department from the two hotels are represented at this event.

The 100-strong Meritus Contingent will march to the carnival led by the iconic Meritus brand ambassadors, showcasing its striking red cheongsam. The “Mandarin Girls”, as they are known, have always been lauded for their exemplary delivery of Asian grace, warmth and care.

Mr Ang, General Manager of the Meritus Mandarin said, “This is a really special occasion for our country and we want to make our support and presence known. This inaugural sporting event will be an excellent opportunity for us to showcase Singapore as a key destination for world-class events and we are very proud to be associated with it. We certainly hope that Singapore wins the bid but whatever the outcome, I think we have already won in a different way, judging from the tremendous amount of support and enthusiasm from the businesses and communities.”
