One
of the wine industries foremost authorities on wine has awarded Mom Tri's Kitchen with the distinctive Wine Spectators 'Award of
Excellence' for the fourth time since 2004.
Wine Director for Mom Tri’s restaurants George Ciret expressed his pleasure with the award, “we are very proud to win for another consecutive
year, there are not so many restaurants in the world with this award. It is important because the Wine Spectator Magazine is the number one
authority for wine in the world.”
Mom Tri's Kitchen started of with just 120 labels and two cellars, but with the expertise of Mr. Ciret and support of General Manager Adisak
Pitukrojjananont, there are now nearly 400 labels and 3 cellars.
Catering to all levels of wine connoisseurs, Mom Tri's Kitchen has the sommelier corner. Every month Mr. Ciret carefully chooses 16 different
wines to be sold by the bottle or by the glass, with prices starting at 1,300 baht per bottle and ranging to the very exclusive.
Good wine is not the only element of an award wining restaurant. Mr. Ciret
explained, “Good management is important, everyday we look at the wine list, order more wines and adjust the wine and the vintages on our list. We are always searching the Thai market for new wines from new
countries and new grapes.
“Wine is not part of Thai culture, not like in France; when I was young and I saw a bottle of wine on our family table every night. Part of our
successful wine management is ongoing training for the staff. I have wine tasting and service training every week. People know that Mom Tri's
restaurants specialize in wine and wine service. The staff must know what is on the current list so they can recommend wine for meals and
provide answers about pairings between wine and food.”
Currently Mr. Ciret is working on the wine lists for two new restaurants by Mom Tri; Mom Tri's Oasis in Kata and Mom Tri's Boathouse Regatta in
the Royal Phuket Marina both to open in November. He is also Wine Director for the award-wining Mom Tri's Boathouse on Kata Beach.
Mom Tri's Kitchen is located at Mom Tri's Villa Royale, Kata Noi Beach, Phuket, Thailand. Villa Royale is the creation of famous Thai Architect and
artist Mom Luang Tridhosyuth Devakul better known as Mom Tri. Initially Villa Royale was a private hideaway for family and friends and in 2002
Mom Tri transformed it into a resort and opened to the general public.
