Singapore Airlines to Fly to Kuwait; Increase Services to Abu Dhabi and Cairo

Travel News Asia Latest Travel News Podcasts Wednesday, 17 December 2008

Singapore Airlines is to begin a four-times-weekly service to Kuwait from 15 March 2009. Flying via Abu Dhabi, the service will operate on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, using Boeing 777-200 aircraft.

As a consequence of the introduction of this service, Singapore Airlines will now fly between Singapore and Abu Dhabi daily, up from the existing three times weekly service.

From 12 March 2009, Singapore Airlines will also increase flights between Singapore and Cairo from three times a week to four. These flights will operate via Dubai.

The addition of Kuwait to the Singapore Airlines network comes after the conclusion and signing of a broad Open Skies Agreement between Singapore and Kuwait last month. Kuwait will be Singapore Airlines’ 68th destination, across 36 countries, and provides another destination for customers looking to experience the vibrancy of souks, the elegance of Middle Eastern cuisine and the warmth of Arabian hospitality.

“Its geographical size and a relatively small population belie Kuwait’s position as a prominent financial and trade centre in the Middle East, and a treasure trove of interesting historical sights,” said Mr Huang Cheng Eng, Singapore Airlines’ Executive Vice President, Marketing and the Regions.“As trade and investment opportunities increase in the Middle East, and new tourism potential is being tapped, Singapore Airlines is playing its part connecting these economic centres with Singapore and its global network beyond.”

Kuwait is a modern and dynamic city, also rich in history and tradition. Visitors to the city will find it impossible to miss the distinctive Kuwait Towers, one of the Middle East’s most recognisable and popular attractions. For history buffs, the nearby Failaka Island has much to offer, housing archeological sites that date back to the bronze age.

Visitors can view a great collection of art pieces by local and regional artists at the famed Museum of Modern Art, while a myriad of sights and sounds and fantastic bargains await avid shoppers at Souk Al Mubarakiya - one of the oldest shopping areas in Kuwait.

The addition of these flights brings Singapore Airlines’ frequency between Dubai and Singapore to 21 times weekly, of which 17 flights operate beyond to Istanbul, Cairo, Moscow and Riyadh (service commenced this week).

Service between Singapore and Abu Dhabi will operate daily, with the existing three flights continuing on to Jeddah, and the four new flights going on to Kuwait.
