Tickets for the popular, and highly entertaining, NZI Rugby Sevens will go on sale at 9am on Wednesday 17. The 2009 event promises to be even more fun than ever as Rugby Sevens fans will have extra reason to party - it’s the event’s tenth birthday.

“It’s been ten years of triumph on and off the field as the capital has embraced the New Zealand leg and made it its own,” Tournament General Manager Steve Walters said. “The fans come ready to enjoy themselves and this year the tournament generated $15.6 million of new spend into Wellington city’s economy.”

One of the country’s biggest sports and entertainment events, the  NZI Rugby Sevens, will be held at Wellington’s Westpac Stadium on Waitangi weekend, Friday 6 and Saturday 7 February 2009. Wellington is among the four founding tournaments along with Hong Kong, South Africa and England.

Tickets are available via the internet or by calling Ticketmaster on 0800 111 999. People wanting to purchase online should pre-register their details with Ticketmaster before 17 September. While pre-registering will not guarantee tickets, it will speed up the process once tickets go on sale.

Mr Walters says “We are committed to making the NZI Sevens a special experience and we’ll be ramping up the excitement for our tenth birthday.”
