Malaysia's Firefly now available on Abacus Whiz

Travel News Asia Latest Travel News Thursday, 13 March 2008

Abacus has expanded its Low Cost Carrier airfare content through a GDS partnership with Malaysian low cost carrier, Firefly. All 15,000 Abacus-connected travel agency locations can now access Firefly's content through the Abacus Whiz system.

Abacus International's Vice President for North Asia and Content Marketing, Mr Patrick Lai, said, "Firefly flies to popular regional tourist destinations like Penang, Koh Samui and Phuket, at competitive fare pricing. With its impressive growth last year and the increased consumer demand for its low fares, Firefly is an important addition to the airfare content available on Abacus Whiz."

Firefly is based in Penang at the northern region, and Subang in the central region. A subsidiary of MAS and dubbed Malaysia's first community airline, Firefly began operations in April 2007 and currently flies to eight destinations in Malaysia and Thailand.

Managing Director of Firefly, Mr Eddy Leong, said the distribution deal with Abacus was an important strategic decision for the community-based airline.

"As we are working with our parent company, Malaysian Airlines, on an expansion programme it is vital that we have reliable and broad-reaching distribution channels. Abacus provides us the best reach in the Asian region," said Mr Leong.

Abacus already distributes fares from low cost airline such as Air Asia, Jet Star Asia and India's Deccan.
