Undersea Wine Tasting at the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island

Travel News Asia Latest Travel News Podcasts Monday, 13 October 2008

Ron Georgiou, the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island’s ‘Master of Wine’, will treat guests to a gourmet wine celebration at Ithaa Undersea Restaurant on Friday 21 November.

Set five metres below the surface with 180-degree panoramic underwater views, Ithaa (meaning ‘pearl’ in the Maldivian language of Dihevi), is a unique dining venue and one of the world’s first all-glass under-sea restaurants.

Ron Georgiou is one of only 264 ‘Masters of Wine’ in the world. He presides over the world-class wine experience on offer at the seven restaurants and three bars at the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island. This includes his own personal creation, the underground Wine Cellar, which houses over 10,000 bottles of wine from the Old and New Worlds. Ron has nurtured the wine program at the resort for the last seven and a half years. This has seen the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island win the ‘2 Glass Award-Winning Wine List’ as voted by Wine Spectator Magazine Restaurant Awards program 2008. His passionate mixing of wine, combined with travel, art and music anecdotes, will create a true multidimensional experience - and a night to remember.

Ron works closely with the resident Sommelier and Executive Chef, to ensure that the wine both compliments the cuisine, and excites and challenges guest expectations.

Kuoni Travel in the UK offers seven nights at the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island in a Deluxe Beach Villa on bed and breakfast basis, including flights with Sri Lankan Airlines from Heathrow with seaplane transfers in resort and airport lounge in the UK. Prices for November 2008 start from £2801 per person based on two sharing.
