Travel News Asia Latest Travel News Podcasts Friday, 11 July 2008

Stylo International, the organiser of the Stylo KL Fashion Festival is to host a Fashion Grand Prix coinciding with the world’s first-ever F1 night race in Singapore.

Supported by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and presented by Mercedes-Benz, Stylo will stage a one-night only fashion gala on the 26th of September at the Mercedes-Benz Center on Alexandra Road entitled ‘Stylo Fashion Grand Prix, Singapore’.

Stylo was conceived as a lifestyle fringe activity to support F1 races in the region by Malaysian PR practitioner Dato’ Nancy Yeoh with legendary shoe designer Dato’ Jimmy Choo, OBE as Advisor and leading Asian impresario Dick Lee as Creative Director. Stylo held its inaugural Stylo KL Fashion Festival early this year as one of the main events to celebrate the 10th anniversary of F1 in Sepang, Kuala Lumpur.

Highlighting fashion talents with strong event themes as ‘fashion entertainment’ under the tagline ‘fashion’s merely the excuse’, it was a runaway success bringing thousands of F1 enthusiasts, corporate who’s who, celebrities, fashionistas and members of the local and international media to its iconic ‘Fashion Cube’ and distinctive ‘Red Room’ throughout its 9 day festival. It was presented by Mercedes-Benz.

Mr Chang Chee Pey, Regional Director ASEAN (Mainland) of the Singapore Tourism Board said, “We are very happy to welcome Stylo to Uniquely Singapore together with more than 10 lifestyle events and premium experiences under the Singapore GP season. This will help entrench Singapore’s standing as a world-class events and entertainment capital and positioning Singapore as a top-notch lifestyle destination with providing unique experiences to complement the first-ever night race in history.

“Throughout the GP season, we expect visitors from the United Kingdom, Austria, Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan amongst others. We are very happy to showcase Stylo during this very important season in Singapore’s tourism calendar.”

Dr Rainer Thiel, President & CEO of Daimler South East Asia Pte Ltd said “Guests will be able to experience the world of motor sports and the legend that is the Silver Arrow – thanks to an exhibition titled “Speed and Spirit”. The display features a unique selection of snapshots that will provide rare glimpses of motor racing in the 1930s when the unparalleled success story of the Mercedes-Benz Silver Arrows began. 2 historic vehicles “Speed” and “Spirit” will be on display in the Mercedes-Benz Center till the 5th of October 2008.”

“Speed” is a 2 litre 8 cylinder racing car “Monza” which had its first victory in 1926 at the German Grand Prix at the AVUS-circuit in Berlin. “Spirit” on the other hand is a 200 Cabriolet C and the radiator cowling of this type of car has been moulding the looks of the Mercedes-Benz passenger cars for decades.

Stylo Fashion Grand Prix, Singapore will feature the fashion interpretation of leading Singaporean and Malaysian designers alongside some regional big names and international luxury labels with an all- night after-party taking place within individualised themed rooms of the Mercedes-Benz Center.

Corporate chieftains, F1 enthusiasts, celebrities and fashionistas from the region are expected at this gala billed as one of the most glamorous events of the Singapore GP season.

It will be organised by Stylo International Pte Ltd in partnership with Pico, subsidiary of Hong Kong-listed Pico Far-East Holdings Ltd, one of the world’s leading events services providers.
