Travel News Asia Latest Travel News Podcasts Thursday, 10 July 2008

Starwood's W Hotels has appointed Damon Page as General Manager of the W Hong Kong.

The role marks a milestone for the 3rd generation hotelier, whose passion for hotels has resulted in an impressive career spanning twenty-five years. From all over his native Australia to destinations such as New Zealand, Guilin, Moscow, Warsaw, Malaysia and Maldives.

Having worked with the W brand for the past three years, Damon’s previous role saw him responsible for the opening of the W Maldives, the brand’s first Retreat & Spa, where he oversaw the hiring, training and motivating of 220 staff from 24 countries around the world.

Commenting on his new challenge, Damon said, “There are few industries as dynamic as the hotel industry, and what city in the world is as vibrant and energetic as Hong Kong? We have the privilege of delivering our Whatever/Whenever service philosophy in a very stylish environment within the city’s newest centre of commerce, entertainment and culture. It’s a thrilling project to be a part of.”

The 393-room W Hong Kong, which begins accepting reservations from October 2008, is located in the heart of the city’s burgeoning West Kowloon commercial, entertainment, and cultural district. The new hotel will be the closest structure to the city’s newest commercial landmark, the International Commerce Centre, and the only hotel connected to the city’s luxurious Elements shopping mall.

The hotel will offer some of the city’s most spacious guest rooms, outfitted with the finest audio/video technology including standard High Definition Sharp 42” LCD televisions, KEF 5.1 surround sound systems with DVD /CD players, and i-Pod docking stations and bathtub LCD screens. The rooms will all have both wired and wireless high-speed Internet access as well as generous workstations for business travelers. W Hong Kong will also boast one of the city’s most highly elevated swimming pools at 700 feet above street level, and will introduce Hong Kong to Bliss spa.

W Hong Kong will mark the W brand’s third hotel in Asia with plans to open hotels and retreats in Bangkok, Guangzhou, Macao-Studio City, Shanghai, Yokohama, Bali, and Koh Samui.
