Clarke Quay Grooves to First Uniquely Singapore Weekend

Travel News Asia Wednesday, 8 August 2007

Weekend visitors in Singapore can expect a lively start to the first of 52 Uniquely Singapore Weekends on 10 August at Clarke Quay. Organised by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), Weekend Grooves @ Clarke Quay is a three-day entertainment extravaganza specially organised to enable visitors to experience the fun, energy and buzz of weekends in Singapore.

The Uniquely Singapore Weekends is STB’s latest campaign to position Singapore as a top-of-mind weekend destination in the region. Seven cities have been chosen for this campaign also aimed at attracting more visitors to experience weekend getaways, any time throughout the year. These cities - Bangkok, Chennai, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Johor Baru and Kuala Lumpur - have been selected based on their proximity and ease of travel to Singapore.

“Through the Uniquely Singapore Weekends campaign, we aim to drive home the point that visitors can enjoy a weekend like no other in Uniquely Singapore; that there is so much to see and do - whether you enjoy shopping, dining, sightseeing, clubbing or simply soaking in the weekend fun and revelry. The Weekend Grooves @ Clarke Quay is a good platform for us to launch and create awareness for the campaign,” said Mr Quek Swee Kuan, Deputy Chief Executive, International Group, STB.

Commenting on the venue for the event, Mr Quek added that “On a normal weekend Clarke Quay attracts 25,000 party goers each night, comprising local and international visitors, who visit this 24-hour entertainment zone along the Singapore River for its dynamic entertainment scene with iconic global brands like the Ministry of Sound (MoS), Fashion Bar and Kandi Bar, as well as restaurants that appeal to every palate. Visitors will also get to enjoy attractions like, G-Max reverse bungee, Singapore River Cruises and Asian Civilisations Museum, which is within the waterfront precinct. There is something for everyone at Clarke Quay.”

The timing of the event in August is also chosen to coincide with Singapore’s National Day celebrations and a series of events such as the Singapore Fireworks Celebrations, WOMAD, WaterFest 2007 and Heroes World Tour. In addition to these, there are other regular weekend activities that local residents and visitors can enjoy.

For the launch event from 10 to 12 August, there is an exciting line up of performances by international acts such as the sizzling hot Gotham Penthouse Dancers, awe-inspiring Flying Act, hip-hop dancers, Latino band and spectacular pyrotechnics light and sound displays. Visitors can also treat their senses to theme parties at Forbidden City/Indochine and Fashion Bar as well as special gigs by internationally renowned guest DJs at MoS, Attica and other venues throughout Clarke Quay.

Tourists can take advantage of existing promotions and special “Weekend Grooves @ Clarke Quay” deals offered by tenants as well as complimentary HiPPO bus transfers from pickup points along Orchard Road, Bras Basah Road and the Marina area, to Clarke Quay and entertainment hotspots – Zouk and St. James Power Station. Tourists from across the causeway can hop on free transfers from Johor Bahru City Square to Clarke Quay.

Party Booklets for tourists consisting of information on the premiums, promotions and special theme parties and programme can be collected from participating hotels, Singapore Visitors Centres and Weekend Grooves Tourist Information Kiosk at Clarke Quay on 10, 11 and 12 August.
