Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts signs Management Agreement for Hotel in Singapore

Travel News Asia Thursday, 8 February 2007

Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts has signed a management agreement with Maxz Universal Development Group for a new development on Sentosa Island, Singapore. The resort is scheduled to open at the end of 2008.

"It is an honour for us to start the New Year with such an exceptional project and to have found a strong partner in Maxz Universal Development Group," declared Jean Gabriel Pérès, President & CEO Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts, after the signing of the agreement. "The future hotel on Sentosa will further enhance our portfolio and blends in perfectly with our strategic expansion plans in Asia."

"We decided in favour of Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts because it enjoys a reliable reputation as a hotel operator in so many markets and is considered as an innovative newcomer in the Asian hotel landscape," explained Seeto Keong, CEO of the Maxz Universal Development Group. "We are confident that its expertise, service and quality standards, combined with its typically Swiss values, will fully satisfy the requirements of the market."

The project consists firstly of an existing historical building built in the colonial style around 1940, which will be completely renovated as part of a development aimed at retaining the listed façade and restoring it to its former splendour. A new extension comprised essentially of rooms with sea view will be added to the hotel.

The Mövenpick Treasure Resort Sentosa is located on a gentle slope next to the Merlion landmark, and it will offer 186 spacious rooms and suites. The hotel will feature a Mövenpick Restaurant, a speciality restaurant and a bar. There are also plans to create a luxury spa and leisure area as well as modern conference and banqueting facilities.

The island of Sentosa lies to the south of the main island of Singapore and is a famous holiday resort with many attractions for the whole family. It can be reached from Singapore by bridge, by cable car or the light rail  system - the vibrant shopping district of the city of Singapore is never more than 15 minutes away. The island offers a perfect mix of natural rainforests, vast leisure amenities and highly coveted beach-front residential and commercial areas. With its multi-billion dollar projects, Sentosa is set to become one of the leading leisure destinations in South East Asia. The Mövenpick Treasure Resort Sentosa is scheduled to open along with a multitude of new leisure attractions.
