Australians Invited to Name New International Airline

Travel News Asia Thursday, 7 June 2007

Virgin Blue is calling on the creative minds of Australians to help name its new International Airline or the aircraft it will operate, scheduled for take off next year.

The new airline will initially operate flights between Australia and the United States of America. The airline is set to launch in late 2008 and Virgin Blue is putting the call out to the Australian public to help name the new carrier or the aircraft it will fly.

The new airline with a new name will join Virgin Blue Australia Holdings' diversifying airline group which now includes Virgin Blue, Pacific Blue and Polynesian Blue.

Chief Executive Brett Godfrey said, “This is the beginning of another exciting era for us and for Australian travellers who have been instrumental in the success of Virgin Blue. We have a few ideas of our own and we also want to show our appreciation by giving Australians the chance to name Australia’s newest international carrier or its aircraft.”

Virgin Blue recently announced it will launch its Trans-Pacific flights using the sleek Boeing 777-300ER aircraft with a firm order for seven jets and options for six more.

While details of launch routes, products and fares are yet to be announced, Virgin Blue is progressing through the regulatory process and is eager to lock in the name of its International stable-mate.

The winner will receive two free return economy flights a year (inclusive of taxes) for five years to any of the International destinations operated by Pacific Blue, Polynesian Blue or the new International Airline following its launch.

Brett Godfrey added, “This time next year we will be full steam ahead with launch and inaugural flight preparations and are excited the airline or the aircraft will be flying under a name chosen by Australian public. We are looking forward to bringing an alternative Australian airline to the trans-Pacific route, just as we brought real choice and value to Australian domestic aviation.”

The competition is live now is being promoted through a national Australian Radio Network promotion. Entry is via the Virgin Blue website virginblue.com.au. The competition will close at noon on Friday 15 June 2007.
