Travel News Asia Latest Travel News Thursday, 6 September 2007

Tahiti is not only known for romantic tropical breaks, absolute relaxation - it is also home to some of the best surfing waves in the world, and host to the annual Billabong Pro Tahiti.

Now, Air Tahiti Nui and The Surf Travel Company have teamed up for the upcoming summer, releasing an eight day / nine night special staying at Blackwater Lodge, located in the world-famous Teahupoo, home of the Billabong Pro.

The package, available for sale until 10 November, includes return economy airfares from Australia with Air Tahiti Nui, airport transfers and nine nights accommodation in the ambient Blackwater Lodge, including all meals. Prices start from A$2705 per person ex Sydney, including taxes.

A short ride by speedboat takes surfers to some of the world's most spectacular and exclusive surfing lineups each day. The breaks in this area vary from point breaks to reef breaks, and as such cater to a variety of skill levels.

"The surf travel market is growing, and Tahiti is fast becoming one of the most popular locations for surfers of all abilities," said Craig Lee, Regional Director Australia for Air Tahiti Nui. "This package is designed specifically for these travellers.

"In addition to surfing, visitors can also enjoy a wide range of other activities such as fishing and diving, kite surfing, parasailing, parachuting and gliding," Mr Lee added. "And from Sydney, Tahiti is just seven hours away, with our nonstop flights departing Australia mid morning, crossing the international dateline and arriving in Papeete the previous evening."

Air Tahiti Nui offers three weekly flights from Australia, with two weekly non-stop services from Sydney to Papeete and a third service via Auckland.
