China’s Commercial Aerospace Industry Boosts Support for Asian Aerospace 2007

Asian Aerospace International Expo and Congress, which already enjoys endorsement by the General Administration of Civil Aviation of China (CAAC), has received significant new backing from public and private sector enterprises in China, which see the event as a perfect platform to boost two way trading opportunities in the global commercial aerospace market.

The Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defence, P.R.C. (COSTIND) will support Reed Exhibitions, through an agreement with COSTIND Media Centre (the division within COSTIND responsible for exhibition coordination), to promote jointly what is shaping up to be one of the single largest dedicated civil aerospace industry events in the world, when it is held at its new venue in AsiaWorld-Expo, Hong Kong from September 3-6, 2007.

Companies located in the two aerospace industry bases in the cities of Xian, and Tianjin have also confirmed their participation at Asian Aerospace to showcase their growing expertise in manufacturing and research & development (R&D). 

The setting up of the Xian Aviation Industrial in the ancient city, renowned for its terracotta warriors, is a firm indication of China’s commitment to boosting the aerospace industry infrastructure beyond just the major cities. The Tianjin Aerospace Industry Base in the port city of Tianjin is a collaboration between the National Civil Aviation Board and the local government in Tianjin, where Airbus plans to set up an A320 final assembly plant.

There are also targets for increasing OEM production and boosting the industry production. In addition, the development of satellite related applications like communication, navigation, remote sensor, etc. are also being encouraged. The ultimate goal is to have an integrated aerospace industrial chain encompassing aerial, ground and terminal commodities’ production and operation services. We believe that our participation at Asian Aerospace will lead to increased opportunities for collaboration with international partners for mutual long term benefits.”

Recently China Aviation Industry Corporation I (AVIC 1) has signed up to participate at the show. AVIC 1 encompasses 47 large and medium-sized manufacturing facilities, 31 research and development institutes, 22 affiliated specialised companies and institutions, with a total employment of almost quarter of a million staff. AVIC II, which specialises in the feeder and rotary wing aircraft sector, has also signed up to participate at Asian Aerospace.

Included among the international line-up of leading industry companies which has signed up for Asian Aerospace so far are Airbus parent company EADS, Boeing, Bombardier, Action Aviation, Aviall, Aviation Australia, Jet Aviation, Lufthansa Technik, and United Technologies Corporation, among others.

National industry and group pavilions which will be represented include Australia, Austria, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Ireland, Netherlands, Romania, Switzerland, the United States, and the UK.

Major support for Asian Aerospace has also been pledged by an array of public and private sector organisations in Hong Kong and China, including Invest Hong Kong, Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department, The General Administration of Civil Aviation of China (CAAC), Commission of Science Technology and Industry for National Defense (COSTIND), Airport Authority Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Tourism Board, and the Aerospace Forum Asia (AFA).

A high-level Congress will form a key component of the event, bringing together major players from across aerospace and aviation to discuss the exciting opportunities the region’s fast-growing market will deliver. 

The congress will be organised in partnership with Flight, a long established brand in aviation media, which provides global intelligence and resources to everyone involved in or with a passion for aviation.

The Asia Pacific Airline Training Symposium (APATS), which will also be held in conjunction with Asian Aerospace International Expo and Congress 2007, will zero in on innovative and cost effective training as the foundation of airline growth in the Asia Pacific region, given the shortage of trained personnel and the training need created by the tremendous growth of these airline fleets.

The recent acquisition and integration of the Asia Pacific region’s premier air freight exhibition and conference, Air Freight Asia into Asian Aerospace is in line with Reed Exhibitions plans to provide a cluster of complementary events that will combine to offer the largest dedicated civil aviation industry showcase in the world.

The world’s premier aircraft interiors show, Aircraft Interiors Expo Asia, which has also been acquired lately by Reed Exhibitions, will be held alongside Asian Aerospace in 2007. Another associated event, Composites Asia will showcase raw materials, production and manufacturing technology for composites materials.

Altogether, visitors to Asian Aerospace can expect to see a comprehensive range of commercial aviation products and services at AsiaWorld-Expo, excluding a static display area for commercial aircraft, which will be located within the Hong Kong International Airport.
