Travel News Asia Monday, 29 January 2007

An Indonesian, Jeffrey Polnaja, is visiting Dubai as part of his ‘Ride for Peace’ mission to travel around the world by road on a motorcycle. He plans to explore 100 countries across five continents in five years.

The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) arranged a welcome ceremony at the Heritage and Diving Village in Al Shindagha on Sunday, January 28, 2007. DTCM officials led by Mr. Hakam Al Hashimi, DTCM Manager Heritage and Diving Village, welcomed Jeffrey and presented him a memento. He was also provided with special literature and a map on Dubai.

JJ, as he is known, started his challenging journey in Jakarta, capital of Indonesia, on 23 April 2006. He has so far visited 16 countries including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, China, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran.

His next trip will cover Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, and Jordan followed by Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, and Morocco. After exploring most of Europe he will continue his journey to America and Australia before going back home to Indonesia in the year 2011.

“My journey is dedicated to promote global peace, strengthen people-to-people ties between Indonesia and the world, and promote motor biking abroad as a symbol of spirit and adventure, independence and freedom,” said the first Indonesian to travel solo on a motorbike around the world.

The 44-year-old Indonesian is touring the world on BMW R1150GS limited edition motorbike. His German-made adventure bike is equipped with a global positioning system (GPS), a video camera, and extra containers for tools and supplies, especially designed for long distance rides.
