Amazing Prizes from SilkAir with Life-sized street Monopoly Board this August in Singapore

Travel News Asia Thursday, 2 August 2007

Registration is now open for what could be Asia’s largest street monopoly board challenge. Building on the property fever in Singapore, SilkAir has launched the first ever ‘SilkAir Monopoly Challenge 2007’, offering Singaporeans the chance to ‘buy, trade, mortgage and rent’ real estate across the 27 destinations in the airline’s regional network.

The grand event - on 18 and 19 August 2007 at Ngee Ann City’s Civic Centre in Singapore - will feature a regional edition of the world’s classic commercial board game in a life-sized street monopoly board measuring over 15m by 15m. Players will ‘travel’ around SilkAir’s exotic destinations, buy or rent villas, and see the game’s iconic ‘Go to Jail’, ‘Chance’, ‘Free Parking’ and other symbols which will come to life in giant 3D formats.

Set to be a large-scale affair, the event will welcome a maximum capacity of 1200 participants to battle it out in the qualifying round. 16 finalists will play out the tournament finals on the life-sized street board for the grand prize of Sin$10,000 cash and unlimited SilkAir flights to anywhere in the airline’s exotic network for an entire year.

Classic monopoly rules will apply but in close consultation with Hasbro, makers of Monopoly, SilkAir’s edition will include special features. For one, the game’s conventional icons will make way for customised travel-related tokens by way of a pilot’s cap, luggage, luggage labels, a passport and a baggage trolley. Monopoly’s famous moustached mascot, Mr. Monopoly also trades his trademark top hat for a pilot’s cap.

The game’s Community Chest and Chance cards too will see a twist - players can expect to pay “airport taxes”, be charged for “excess baggage”, be awarded more Krisflyer miles or get upgraded to business class.

“Almost everybody remembers Monopoly with fondness. It’s one of the best loved games in the world and we’re delighted to be able to develop the very first regional version,” said SilkAir’s Vice President Commercial, Mr. David Lim. “For us, it is a great opportunity to showcase the gems of Asia.”

Registration for the SilkAir Monopoly Challenge ends on 10th August 2007. To register, take your I/C and Sin$5 to #01-01, Robinson Road, The Ogilvy Centre, Singapore 068876. (Mondays – Fridays, between 12noon and 7pm).
