Singapore Airlines opens Airbus A380 Auction

Travel News Asia Monday, 27 August 2007

Would you like to be one of the first commercial passengers to fly Airbus' new Super Jumbo, the A380, and at the same time help a worthwhile charity? The Singapore Airlines A380 First Flight Charity Auction opened today, and everyone has the opportunity to participate in this unprecedented and historical event.

The Singapore Airlines A380 will fly its first flight from Singapore to Sydney on Thursday 25 October and the return leg on Friday 26 October.

A majority of seats on both legs of the first commercial Airbus A380 flight are being auctioned on eBay progressively over two weeks from Monday evening (12:00 GMT - 27 August 2007). To mark the launch of the new A380, the starting bid prices are: Economy Class US$ 3.80, Business Class US$ 38 and the ultimate, the Singapore Airlines Suites at US$ 380.

To bid, interested parties will need, an eBay user ID and the names and passport numbers of those travelling.

For bids on packages in the premium classes (Business and Suites), or bids over US$1,000 in Economy Class, pre-qualification will be required. This helps to ensure bids are not artificially inflated, and aims to give bidders confidence they are bidding only against genuine and pre-qualified bidders

Prequalification is initiated online. Singapore Airlines’ global auction management agency, Auctionwire, has developed numerous ways for bidders to pre-qualify and lodge security deposits for bids requiring pre-qualification.

Not only is the a chance to be a part of aviation history, but 100% of the proceeds of the auction will be donated to charities. The charities and split are:

• One-third to Singapore’s Community Chest
• One-third split between the Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick, and The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, both in Sydney
• One-third to Médecins Sans Frontières, also known as Doctors Without Borders.
