Marriott has signed management contracts for two Courtyard by Marriott hotels in Phuket, Thailand. Both hotels are scheduled to open early 2008.

Both hotels will be conversions of existing properties and will undergo extensive renovations prior to being re-branded. The existing hotels are the 399-room Grand Tropicana Hotel Phuket which will convert to the Courtyard by Marriott Phuket at Patong Beach; and the 256-room Surin Beach Resort which will be re-branded as the Courtyard by Marriott Phuket at Surin Beach.

Renovations at both properties will include all guestrooms, restaurants, lobby and public areas.

The serene Surin Beach is a largely undeveloped stretch of pristine, sandy beachfront with casuarinas trees and is well known for its seafood stalls and restaurants. Its seawaters are well regarded for snorkeling, kayaking, boogie boarding and surfing.

When renovations are completed, the Courtyard by Marriott Phuket at Surin Beach will have a casual, three-meal restaurant and a poolside bar. Recreational amenities will include a swimming pool and a kids pool, an exercise room, a games room and a kids club.
