The Melbourne Metro YHA has reinforced its status as a Victorian backpacking industry leader by winning the HMAA Award for Excellence in Backpacker Accommodation for the second year running.

The Victorian HMAA (Hotel Motel and Accommodation Association) Awards for Excellence were presented at a gala dinner at the Medallion Club at Melbourne’s Telstra Dome on Wednesday 22 August 2007.

More than 200 prominent members of the tourism and hospitality industry were present for the eighth HMAA Awards ceremony – including The Hon Tim Holding MP, Victoria’s Minister for Tourism and Major Events.

Melbourne Metro YHA is a modern and vibrant 348 bed hostel, centrally located in leafy North Melbourne. It features stylish décor, a licensed café, travel desk and a rooftop barbeque area with magnificent 360° views of the city.

Melbourne Metro YHA Manager Michael Latham said, “We are absolutely thrilled to receive this award and it has been a real team effort, from housekeeping, maintenance and reception staff to the CEO of YHA Victoria – everyone has played their part. For us, this award demonstrates the importance of quality.”

Melbourne Metro YHA is a flagship gateway hostel for a network of over 130 quality YHA hostels across Australia and is a member of the International Youth Hostel Federation, which has over 4,300 hostels across the globe.
