Virgin Atlantic launches Duty Free Promotion to encourage Online Check-In

Travel News Asia Tuesday, 24 July 2007

Between the 1 August and 30 September this year all Virgin Atlantic passengers travelling from Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester Airports who check in online will receive £6 off for every £30 spent onboard Virgin Atlantic flights.

Virgin Atlantic now has two magazines to target the tastes and fashions of its business and leisure passengers. Both magazines contain over 180 items from top brand names and include over 50 brand new products in the latest editions.

Passengers will also receive vouchers and discounts to spend at selected duty free retailers within the departure areas of Terminal 3 at Heathrow and the South Terminal at Gatwick.

Paul Dickinson, Sales & Marketing Director for Virgin Atlantic, said, “We hope that this promotion will encourage passengers to check-in online before their trip as it means that on arrival at the airport, they simply hand over their luggage at the ‘Bag Drop’ desk and go straight through security, making the whole process much quicker and stress free for them.

“The airline expects that 80% of its passengers will be using online Check-In and kiosk Check-In by the end of 2008 and so we’re hoping that this promotion will encourage passengers to see how easy it is.”

To obtain the vouchers, passengers will need to check-in online between the 1 August and 30 September. Once they have done this, they will be able to print off their vouchers from their check-in confirmation email and take them with them to the airport on the day of departure. For the Retail Therapy discount, passengers will need to present the voucher to a member of cabin crew onboard their flight when making a duty free purchase of £30 or over. For vouchers to be used at the airport duty free retailers, passengers should produce the vouchers at time of purchase.
