The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) has announced details of the ‘Concierge of the Year’ 2007 competition it is conducting in association with the Wafi Group.

The sixth edition of the annual competition has attracted the participation of 42 five-star hotels in the emirate.

The Mystery Shopper, an important component of the three-tier exercise for the nine categories of the award scheme, has started early this month and will run until September end.

The DTCM Executive Director Human Resources and Training Solutions, Mr. Ibrahim Yaqoot, said the award scheme has been designed to enhance professionalism and service standards of Dubai’s hospitality industry.

The DTCM will sponsor Concierge of the Year winner to represent Dubai at the International Clefs D’Or Congress organized by the Union of International Hotel Concierges [UICH], in Copenhagen in 2008. The winner will also receive a trophy, certificate and AED12,000 in prize money. The prizes in three categories of the competition have been sponsored by Conceirge magazine, Castaway Cards and Big Bus Company.

The award categories and prizes are: Concierge Team of the Year (AED20000, trophy and certificate), First Class Customer Care (AED2500 and certificate), Outstanding Knowledge of Attractions and Events (AED2500 and certificate), Outstanding Knowledge of Culture and Heritage (AED2500 and certificate), Exceptional Positive Attitude (AED2500 and certificate), Head Concierge of the Year (AED2500 and certificate), Judges Award for an Individual (AED2500 and certificate) and Judges Award for a Team (AED6000 and certificate).

The competition is open only to five star properties. Both the mystery guest reports and the quiz scores will help identify the winners for all categories. There will be individual and team rounds for the quiz for which each hotel can send a team of three from their Concierge department. The mystery shoppers will make various visits to the participating hotels looking for help, advice and detailed information about Dubai.
