AirAsia signs Airframe Maintenance Contract

Travel News Asia Wednesday, 23 May 2007

On Tuesday, AirAsia signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Sepang Aircraft Engineering Sdn Bhd (SAE), an independent local aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) service provider to carry out airframe maintenance for the airline’s Airbus A320 and Boeing B737 fleet.

Dato’ Tony Fernandes, Group Chief Executive Officer of AirAsia said, “We are delighted to form this mutually beneficial partnership in which AirAsia are supporting SAE’s entry into the MRO industry to support our amazing growth which will translate into greater cost efficiency and faster aircraft turnarounds resulting in optimum usage of our aircraft. In this way, we can continue to offer lower airfares. This partnership also signals our well-planned approach and flexibility towards better managing our resources.”

Syed Budriz Putra, SAE’s Chief Executive Officer said, “This is a significant milestone achievement for SAE and Malaysia. Our goal is to be a global airframe MRO service provider and a leader in the Asia Pacific region. With the current upward trend for airline travel in this region, SAE is ready to capture this market. SAE’s business strategy is to focus on quality, cost competitiveness and service excellence. Also in line with the government’s vision to develop the country as a regional aviation hub, we are determined to provide world-class MRO services to our customers.”
