Travel News Asia Friday, 23 March 2007

Bed Management has appointed Nick Downing as General Manager of the Hôtel de la Paix, Siem Reap in Cambodia.

Nick began his career at the Hyatt Regency Perth whilst studying business at university. During his ten-year period with Hyatt he worked his way through managerial positions and gained the experience that led him to being part of the pre-opening management team for the world’s first Palazzo Versace and then as Rooms Manager on Hayman Island.

After a year with Six Senses’ Soneva Gili, in 2002 Nick moved on to become Director of Operations for the pre-opening of Per Aquum’s Huvafen Fushi in the Maldives. His success was affirmed with his appointment as General Manager of this award-winning resort and eventually granted dual responsibilities for developing Per Aquum’s first resort developments in the Seychelles.

With over 15 years experience behind him and an intrinsic knowledge of hospitality from the foundation up, Nick Downing is well equipped to lead the team and continue to build on the success of Hôtel de la Paix.

“One of the key reasons behind my decision to join Hôtel de la Paix, is its emphasis on benefiting the local people through various programs that  invite guests to interact with and contribute to the Khmer culture,” said Nick, who aims to develop the community based approach of the hotel. “Hôtel de la Paix appeals to people who are looking for exceptional accommodation and excellent service but with a sense of support for the larger context of a developing country.”

Nick’s attention to detail and personalized service is befitting of the iconic design of the hotel and underlies his belief that the success of the hotel is driven by the integrity and passion of the staff.

The Hotel de la Paix is located just a few kilometers from one of the most famous archeological sites in the world, the Angkorian Temples. A tranquil retreat within the bustling town of Siem Reap, Hotel de la Paix, offers an experience of a lifetime connecting guests to the local Khmer culture through it’s community projects.
