Hertz expands Green Collection in America

Travel News Asia Wednesday, 22 August 2007

Hertz has expanded its Green Collection of rental vehicles in the USA, to now offer almost 35,000 cars at 50 major airports.

For every vehicle rented from the Green Collection in America prior to 13 June, 2008, Hertz will contribute US$1 to the National Park foundation.

The expanded Hertz Green Collection includes six vehicle types - the Toyota Prius Hybrid petrol-electric sedan, that achieves, on average, 55 miles per gallon (approx. 22 kilometres per litre), and five fuel-efficient conventional vehicles: the Ford Fusion, Buick LaCrosse, Subaru Outback, Hyundai Sonata and Toyota Camry, that have on average a US Environmental Protection Agency Highway Fuel efficiency Rating of 31 miles per gallon (approximately 12 kilometres per litre), based on the 2007 US Fuel Economy Guide.

Green Collection cars can also be reserved by specific make and model, under special vehicle groups - the Sonata as group ISAR, the Ford Fusion bookable under class EXAR, the Toyota Prius XDAR, Buick LaCrosse FXAR, Toyota Camry FSAR and Subaru Outback CFAR.

"Care of the environment is a major global issue, and Hertz takes this issue seriously," said Kevin Doyle, International Sales and Marketing Manager for Hertz Australia.

"With the hybrid power Toyota Prius and other energy efficient vehicles in The Hertz Green Collection, we offer a selection of environmentally responsible and cost-efficient options to our customers travelling within the USA."

"Our pledge to contribute USD $1 to the National Park Foundation of the USA for every vehicle rented from the Green Collection - with a minimum donation of $1 million - soon adds up to a substantial sum each year," Mr Doyle added.
