 A “health passport” for Kowloon Shangri-La employees is the latest development in Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts’ corporate social responsibility
        programme, one of whose key focus areas is to promote health and safety for both guests and employees. The health passport is specifically designed with advice from health
        professionals to provide information and education on strengthening
        individual health. Resources are available on a variety of health topics
        such as stress control, smoking cessation, nutrition, body mass index and
        occupational health. The objectives of the health passport include
        increasing employee awareness of healthy lifestyle choices, providing
        support to employees in making healthy lifestyle choices, assisting in
        the development of supportive workplace environments in order to meet
        health promotion goals, and increasing employee awareness of health risks. Many of the activities are open to employees’ family members. A well-being point system is also in place as an incentive to motivate staff to
        participate. Staff can collect stamps from the activities they have participated in which can be used at the end of the year to redeem
        prizes. “Our group recognises that staff is one of its most important assets and
        always places employees on the top of the priority list,” said Tan Eng
        Leong, group director of human resources for Shangri-La Hotels and
        Resources. “Hotel management is encouraged to develop any means to
        educate, motivate and empower employees for better health and well being;
        the ‘Health Passport’ is just the latest in a series of innovative
        initiatives in this area.” Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts has launched a two-year development strategy to enhance its corporate social responsibility. Activities in the
        area  of  health and wellness range from training employees on avian flu  awareness  and  the  importance  of  workplace  health  and  safety;
        organising group exercises; arranging health talks; establishing weight
        management programmes; to providing free flu vaccines to staff and to
        their family members at a discounted rate. Besides health and safety, the
        group’s corporate social responsibility programme places emphasis on four
        other key areas: the environment; employees and the community; supply
        chain management; and stakeholder relations. See
