Marriott opens 341-room Renaissance Shanghai Yuyuan Hotel

Travel News Asia Latest Travel News Tuesday, 2 October 2007

Marriott has opened the 341-room Renaissance Shanghai Yuyuan Hotel under a management agreement with Shanghai Yuyuan Hotel Development Co., Ltd. The hotel joins seven other Marriott International branded hotels in Shanghai.

The Renaissance Shanghai Yuyuan Hotel on Henan South Road is located in the Huangpu district of Puxi. Located nearby is Yuyuan, a traditional Chinese park complete with beautiful pavilions, miniature lakes, bridges and rock formations; it remains the only Ming-era garden in Shanghai. The area surrounding Yuyuan is known as Old City and is home to local attractions such as the Temple of the City God, the famous Huixinting Tea House and the Yuyuan markets, a bazaar of stores that sell traditional Chinese arts and crafts.

The modern hotel showcases 341 contemporary guest rooms, including 15 suites. Guestrooms are designed with touches of whimsy and bold color including glass-enclosed bathrooms. Select guestrooms feature cheeky bathtubs located in the living area of the guestroom offering expansive views of old and new Shanghai.

The hotel offers guests expansive and innovative lobby and public spaces, eliminating traditional architectural barriers. The adaptable spaces enable guests to smoothly transition from work to play, offing areas where guests can meet and work in small groups, take private time out, or enjoy a relaxing drink or bite to eat.

Boasting the first Quan Spa in Shanghai, the hotel’s spa forms part of a Wellness Zone with gymnasium, infinity edge pool, juice bar, indoor spa garden and relaxation areas spread out over the top two floors of the hotel with breathtaking views across the Shanghai city skyline. Designed by award winning and prominent Czech architect Borek Sipek, renowned for his individual, unusual, colorful and rich designs, the spa presents a distinctly contemporary ambience and has 10 treatment rooms with a mix of in-room hot tubs and Vichy Showers, single and dual occupancy rooms and a luxe Foot Lounge. An in-house TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) practitioner provides health and lifestyle evaluations and consultations. Algotherm from France provides the spa’s premium skin care range for facials and body treatments in addition to the Quan signature massage oils.

The hotel boasts two full-service restaurants and two bars. The Yu Garden Café serves international and organic cuisine and the China Bistro offers contemporary Chinese cooking. The Yu Bar is part of the innovative public space and offers an extensive wine and cocktail menu. At the Quan Bar, guests are offered healthy beverages and light spa fare. For further enjoyment on-site, the hotel boasts a two level shopping galleria featuring unique boutiques and an art gallery.

The general manager of the Renaissance Shanghai Yuyuan Hotel is Mak Djalali. Mabel Chau is the director of marketing.

Special introductory rates, inclusive of breakfast, are CNY 1500 (US$193) from until December 15, 2007. Guests staying three consecutive nights during this period will be extended an award certificate for a one night complimentary stay during a return visit as part of this special introductory offer.
