Travel News Asia Thursday, 19 July 2007

Singapore is hosting its biggest corporate meeting to date - the 2007 Herbalife Asia Pacific Extravaganza which opened today, 19 July at Singapore Expo. The four-day event (19 – 22 July), which consists of a series of workshops, meetings, seminars and teambuilding activities, is expected to draw close to 16,000 Herbalife executives from 14 countries in Asia Pacific.

The Asia Pacific Extravaganza targets Herbalife product distributors who have committed to achieving specific sales targets. The event provides a platform for product distributors and new business partners the inspiration, tools, techniques and methods to help them achieve better results in the year ahead.

Herbalife delegates attending this event can look forward to talks by renowned speakers such as professional motivational speaker Jim Rohn, who will share his insights into business philosophy. Delegates can also learn more about the future of nutritional science from David Heber M.D. Ph.D, the director of the Center for Human Nutrition at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Dr Heber will be addressing nutritional issues at the Doctors for Herbalife session on 20 July together with Louis Ignarro, Ph.D, a Nobel Laureate in Medicine and member of the Nutrition and Scientific Advisory Boards at Herbalife.

The 2007 Herbalife Asia Pacific Extravaganza will be held at Singapore Expo which has specially converted two convention halls into one seamless convention space just for this event. The venue has also customised seating arrangements to fit all the delegates, tiering seats to allow participants optimum visibility of the central stage.

Singex, the company that manages Singapore Expo, has also customised food and beverage menus for this event, ensuring that Herbalife organisers and delegates’ dietary needs and requirements are met. With the large turnout expected, Singex has also converted part of a convention hall into a food court to cater to additional F&B requirements for the delegates. The venue’s welcome, concierge and hospitality teams will also help to guide delegates around the different halls and facilities.

“We are honoured to help set a new achievement for Asia at Singapore Expo. With the largest corporate meeting in the history of Singapore and Asia gathering at our venue, it is a strong testimony to the world that Singapore Expo can be easily transformed into their finest dream venue for their events. We warmly welcome the Herbalife delegates, and the building of real life interpersonal and business relationships under our single roof,” said Mr Matthew Meredith, Group General Manager, Singex Group.

Apart from attending the meetings, seminars and workshops on Herbalife products, the delegates can look forward to an exciting line-up of activities which include a Herbalife-Style Day where 900 top performing Herbalife distributors will get to enjoy the fruits of their labour by spending a relaxing day at Café Del Mar on Sentosa’s Silosa Beach. The delegates will have a choice of relaxing on deck chairs, jet-skiing and banana boat rides to pitching their skills against professional beach volleyball and beach soccer players.

For the first time, the Asia Pacific Extravaganza will also incorporate a Herbalife Idol contest where seven finalists from Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, New Zealand, Malaysia, India and Australia will flex their vocal chords to raise funds to benefit Singapore Children Society as part of the Herbalife Family Foundation programme to support children’s charities around the world.

Herbalife Family Foundation was created in 1994 by Herbalife founder Mark Hughes. The Foundation supports charitable organisations dedicated to improving the lives of children through helping them overcome poverty, hunger and abuse, and ensures that the children receive adequate medical care and education. With the Herbalife Idol Concert, the Foundation plans to pledge about Sin$ 30,000 (US$ 20,000) of the total funds raised to Singapore Children Society.

Singapore has a long standing relationship with Herbalife International. Four years ago, Singapore hosted Herbalife Asia Pacific Extravaganza 2003, which attracted 13,000 foreign delegates. It was also the largest corporate meeting Singapore had hosted then.

In 2005, Herbalife’s World Team School 2005 was held in Singapore Expo. About 6,000 Herbalife top distributors attended the event.

“Herbalife chose Singapore for a variety of reasons. One is because of the success we’ve had with our past events such as the 2003 Extravaganza and 2005 World Team School. Singapore is also an ideal location because of its strong infrastructure and connectivity which allows us to run large-scale events such as these. Furthermore, the support from the Singapore Tourism Board and various other entities has been a key factor in our decision to hold our events here. Our distributors also love Singapore as it is an attractive destination with a myriad of tourist activities that brings out the best lifestyle experiences,” said Dato Dr. Ronie Tan, Vice President and Managing Director of Herbalife Malaysia and Singapore.
