Melbourne's Newest Tourist Attraction Eureka Tower opens for Business

Travel News Asia Tuesday, 15 May 2007

One of Melbourne’s newest icons becomes its newest tourist attraction today as Eureka Tower officially opens its doors to public. Eureka Skydeck 88, located adjacent to the Yarra River in the heart of the Southgate Precinct, is one of the highest public vantage points in the Southern Hemisphere and offers unparalleled views of Melbourne and its surrounds.

As if the 360 degree view wasn’t enough, Eureka Skydeck 88 also features state of the art technology in a changing program of sound and light, as well as the unique ‘Edge’ experience. The Edge, is a huge moving glass cube which works like a giant matchbox carrying passengers from the inside of Eureka Tower all the way outside of the building - great for pre and post conference touring and for incentive groups.

Meanwhile further down the Yarra, the restoration of Central Pier continues the evolution of Melbourne’s exciting Docklands precinct and under the management of the Atlantic Group, Shed 14 is being transformed and event organisers are about to have four new state-of-the-art venues to choose from.

Peninsula is slated to become Melbourne’s grandest and most glamorous waterside function space and will have capacity for up to 1,250 guests seated and 2,500 standing. Sketch, will be its smaller, ultra-stylish sister space seating up to 170 guests. Joining these two new venues on the water are the new and improved versions of established venues Sumac (130 pax) and Atlantic (350 pax) which are relocating from South Wharf, a different part of the Docklands which is planned for redevelopment.

The venues will use the very latest technology and every detail of design has been carefully considered to ensure flexibility as well as style. Each venue has their own individual character and can be hired in sections or all together as one huge event space. These venues are scheduled to open from August 2007 and are already taking bookings.

Next door in Shed 9, waterfront bar, Alumbra, will be re-opening. Alumbra has also relocated from South Wharf and will retain its distinctive Middle Eastern style, perfect for a cocktail party, product launch or private event. Shed 9 will also contain a Micro Brewery - the first of its kind in Victoria - a gallery space, and the Spiegeltent, a popular live music and entertainment venue which will seat 400 for dinner performances and up to 600 to attend for cocktail parties.
